Marvel at its unique brackish waters before heading to the iconic Cape Sounion, home to the majestic Temple of Poseidon. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and unforgettable sunset vistas.

Duration: 5 Hours Age: No age restrictions

Are you ready to discover the highlights of the Athenian Riviera? Following the coastal road your first stop is to Lake Vouliagmeni, a hidden treasure of the Athenian Riviera. Lake Vouliagmeni has a steady temperature all year round, ranging between 18-24 degrees Celsius. Its water is brackish, containing underground sea water mixed with the water of a spring.

Following the lake, continue along the coastal road whilst admiring the green and rocky coastline of Attica on your way to Cape Sounion. Sounion was an important ancient Greek religious sanctuary dedicated to the gods Poseidon and Athena, mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey.

Spectacularly located on a promontory in southern Attica, the site is dominated by the temple of Poseidon perched 70 meters above the sea on the cliff edge. Take your time in admiring the infinite blue of the Aegean Sea, as no land catches your eye except for scattered islands in the open sea. Admire the beautiful sunset colors in the sky from the highest point of the hill, following which you return to Athens following the same route.

Lake Vouliagmeni

Lake Vouliagmeni (“Sunken Lake”) is a small brackish-water lake fed by underground currents seeping through the mass of Mount Hymettus located to the south of Vouliagmeni, Athens, Greece.
