About

Join Shurr Adventures for a full day Yellowstone Kayak Eco-Tour. This is an excellent way to get away from the crowds with a small group. We are the only company in Yellowstone to offer small group sizes of 8 people or less with a guide. Kayak with the Shurr’s and learn about Yellowstone Lake, the surrounding wildlife, and the geological history that shaped the lake and its ecosystems. Yellowstone National Park is so large that it is impossible to see everything in one day. This full day tour will help give our guests a broader view of the lake area and the southern/central part of Yellowstone National Park. On this tour we will kayak over and past the geothermal features of the West Thumb Geyser Basin. We will then continue on to kayak past the Potts Geyser Basin (an area free of boardwalks and only accessible by kayak)! This is an excellent way to see these natural wonders up close and personal, without the crowds. Halfway through the trip we will stop to sit on a beach, looking at the surrounding mountains as we enjoy appetizers and a great picnic lunch! These high altitude lakes are also a good water source for a variety of birds, elk, deer, and once in a great while a bear! We will be on the lookout for these animals as we kayak! This is truly an unbeatable experience! Shurr Adventures’ trips are not scripted, this allows us to go where the wildlife is likely to be and to take the safest possible routes.

  • Please remember that this kayak tour is on a cold, high altitude lake (7,700 ft). The conditions can be calm and super clear on some days, or choppy and more adventurous on others. Double kayaks with rudders are great for inexperienced kayakers or people that are worried about getting tired on this tour which happens to many people in single kayaks due to the daily winds and 6 miles of paddling

Duration and Availability

  • 5-6 Hours of paddling
  • This trip is available starting early June-September
  • Moderate Level (we paddle 6 miles round trip)

(We recommend trip participants exercise regularly and have kayaked before to do this trip.)

If you are taller than 6'2 or weigh more than 250 lbs, please call or text before making a reservation so that we can make sure we have the right kayak available for your adventure!
