Details

This full-on week of arctic mushing includes five days of 30-40km of mushing per day. The 7-day package includes accommodation and an evening meal on the pre-safari arrival day and accommodation and breakfast on the post-safari departure day. The 8-day package also includes a free day for optional activities.

During the tour, your meals, suitable snow-suits and boots, expert guiding and five days of husky dog-sledding with your own team of huskies are included in the price, as well as wilderness accommodation in a variety of cabins and huts.

NB: At least one night is normally spent in a very basic wilderness hut so that you can have a true Arctic experience on the high tundra plateau.

The optimum number of clients for this safari is six. With this number, we can move easily through the wilderness without too many stops and the small group size works well for the available wilderness huts. Most people find that the shared experience with like-minded adventurers is part of the fun.

If, however, you are interested in an exclusive safari for just two people, or in booking as a slightly larger family group, please consider April. It is rarely possible to accommodate such requests in our peak season - unless, of course, the exclusive groups would like to 'pay the safari full'. NB: For groups over 8 we tend to adapt the route slightly, to utilize one or two of the few larger cabins available in the area.

Accommodation & Board

5-day Tour The first night of the tour returns to the homestead where people have the option to spend the evening relaxing in a cosy kota or joining in fully with farm life - including the feeding of 170 odd dogs! The safari's safety presentation is also given on this evening. The 3 remaining nights of the tour are spent in log cabins, only one of which has electricity and a shower. Full board is included throughout.

7-day Package For those selecting the 7-day package, there is one extra night at the farm and one extra night, post-tour in the local hotel.

8-day Package For those selecting the 8-day package, 3 days of hotel accommodation are included post-tour and this allows for one free day in the area. Many people spend their final day back at the farm. Others choose one of the many other arctic activities available (hiking, skiing, snow-shoeing, visiting a reindeer farm or nature centre, snowmobiling etc).

Transfers

Clients are responsible for their own airport transfers, board and hotel nights on either side of the safari. If you want help with transfers or room and board either side of the tour itself, please choose one of our package options. We may be able to pick you up from hotels in central Hetta, but if you are staying further afield, you will need to get to our base under your own steam by 10 am on Sunday morning.

Price Includes

5 days of mushing for 30—40km per day through the arctic wilderness with a personal dog team; kit and clothing suitable for the Arctic; expert guiding through the tour; a guided farm visit and sled-driving training session; briefings on arctic safety and survival; a personal mentor during your first night of helping with feeding and other dog-related tasks on the farm and 4 night's accommodation with full board (1 night on the farm homestead and 3 in wilderness cabins).
