About

Hop on board a Northumberland Strait lobster fishing boat for Sea & Sand adventure to Pictou Island - a Nova Scotia treasure loved by locals.

Approximately 4 nautical miles off the coast of Pictou lies a small, picturesque island with stunning coastlines, hidden treasures and islanders who beat to their own drum.

Your Pictou Island Sea & Sand experience begins as soon as you arrive at Caribou Fisherman's Wharf. Take in the sights and sounds as you stroll down the dock to meet Captain Hal on his Northumberland Strait fishing boat.

Before leaving the dock, captain Hal will provide a tour of his boat, a safety briefing, and description of your itinerary.    Sit back and take in the salty air of the Northumberland Strait as you cruise to Pictou Island.  Once you arrive, you'll have time to take in a couple of favourite Pictou Island activities:

  • Drop anchor off one of Pictou Island's secluded sandy beaches. Paddle board, swim or snorkel from the boat.

  • Explore an expansive stretch of serene sandy shoreline. Hunt for sea glass, sand dollars and sea shells.

  • Dock alongside fishing and pleasure boats at the Pictou Island Wharf and explore nearby island features by foot or rent a bike!

  • Learn to Mackerel fish! The Mackerel run all summer long, so grab a fishing rod already onboard and catch yourself some keepers.

Add an additional activity by making your 3 hour tour a 4 hour tour!

Adventure Tips

Bring layered clothing

Temperatures on the water can shift quickly—wear layers to stay comfortable during your cruise and beach exploration.

Wear sturdy sandals or water shoes

The island’s beaches have smooth stones and sand—footwear protects your feet and makes walking easier.

Pack sunscreen and a hat

With limited shade on the beaches, sun protection is important during this outdoor experience.

Bring a reusable water bottle

Stay hydrated throughout the tour, especially on warmer days, as fresh water options are limited on the island.
