The Royal Palace of Caserta, is a historic residence that belonged to the Bourbon royal family of Naples, built on the model of Versailles in France. The royal residence was opened in 1780 and was designed by architect Vanvitelli. The structure covers an area of 45,000 square meters, and the park is about 3 km long. There are two sectors: the Italian garden with many fountains, sculptures and waterfalls and the English garden, created at the behest of Maria Carolina, with many native and exotic plants. Inside the palace are 1,200 rooms, 134 staircases and the many stucco, frescoes and inlaid floors that leave visitors breathless.
