Join Lost River Cave and Wild Ones Southern Kentucky Chapter for an engaging BioBlitz, where you'll inventory native plants in a restored meadow. Learn to identify native species with expert guidance, using provided resources and apps. This hands-on experience contributes to habitat restoration while enhancing your plant identification skills.
Lost River Cave is partnering with Wild Ones Southern Kentucky Chapter to do a presence/absence inventory of native plants in the meadow.
Participants will have a brief introduction to the native plants that have been added to the meadow since 2019.
Pictures of these native species will be available to help with plant identification. You may also use the iNaturalist or Seek apps to aid in identification. This is a great opportunity to practice plant ID skills with experienced members there to help if needed.
The meadow will be gridded off to make it easier to keep track of it all. Clipboards and inventory sheets will be provided.

What is a BioBlitz? It’s an inventory of living things. Our BioBlitz will check for the presence of native flowers, sedges, and grasses that have been planted in the meadow. This activity is part of the ongoing effort to restore the meadow and collect data to guide its ongoing restoration plan to benefit the wildlife in this special habitat.
A regional field guide will help you identify local species during the BioBlitz.
Mornings and evenings can be cool in the meadow; layering ensures comfort throughout the day.
Expect uneven terrain with grasses and wet patches; waterproof hiking boots are recommended.

The Bowling Green area has a rich history of native settlement and was part of early conservation efforts in Kentucky during the 20th century.
