Join curators Renée Fox, Kyle Sandler, and Shirley Wajda for a talk and tour of Keeping Faith, an exhibition commemorating the Shakers’ arrival in America in 1774.
Keeping Faith explores the religious and historical significance of sixteen Shaker "relics" from the sect's founding generation. Unlike some other Christian denominations, Shakers did not venerate relics in worship but considered them historical objects, reflecting the Shakers’ simple, democratic, and communal beliefs and their historical understanding of their faith in the early American Republic. The exhibition preserves the unique aspect of Shakerism's religious and cultural history and invite audiences to reflect on these enduring principles.
Light refreshments will be available.
