London boasts over 2000 years of history, from the Tower of London to Buckingham Palace, and the glittering West End theatres. But what about the bits we don’t know, or seem to have forgotten?
Join Brit Icon Tours as we cherry-pick the best bits of Londons forgotten history and guide you around our incredible capital.
On this two and a half hour walking tour, your professional English-speaking guide will delight you with some history, trivia and ghostly stories that give London its fabulous historic background. Everything from the Ancient Egyptians, the Romans, the Medieval Times and the Victorians.
You will meet your guide at Aldgate tube station, surrounded by the sparkling silver skyscrapers before diving in to the cities forgotten history. From there, you will travel on foot so please wear comfortable footwear. Throughout the journey, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of London, including our variety of skyscrapers, iconic landmarks, hotspots and hidden gems.
As part of your journey, you will take a single London bus so please make sure you each have: a valid ticket, an Oyster card, or a Contactless credit/debit card. Children aged 11 and under go free, and tickets are available at the meeting point at Aldgate tube station.
During the tour, you will see:
· The Gherkin, which harbours a secret grave
· The spot where London found out the Titanic sank
· Cleopatra’s Needle, and how does it associate with the Egyptian Queen?
· Long forgotten railway stations
· The Monument, dedicated to the Great Fire in 1666
· And the world-famous Savoy Hotel
The tour does not have any scheduled toilet stops, so please make sure you go before the tour starts.
The tour finishes near Waterloo mainline station, as well as Lambeth North tube station. If you need any assistance afterwards with toilets, places of interest, directions, how to navigate the tube, or recommendations, just ask your guide and they will be happy to help.
The tour includes extensive walking over city streets, so sturdy, comfortable shoes are essential.
