You leave Fes at first light, the city falling behind as the road climbs into the Rif foothills and the air sharpens. Windows frame terraced fields and cedar-sprinkled ridgelines; by mid-morning the silhouette of Taza appears like a fortress above the valley.
moderate.
6–7 hours.
Moderate fitness recommended—able to handle 100 uneven steps, short hikes, and a day seated during transfers.
Expect about 6–7 hours total, including driving (roughly 2–2.5 hours each way), guided cave time, lunch, and a short hike in the park.
The guided sections are family-friendly but involve uneven steps and low-light passages; assess mobility and consider younger children or limited-mobility travelers accordingly.
Local operators often supply helmets and lamps—confirm at booking if you need this equipment or prefer to bring your own headlamp.
The itinerary includes a family-style lunch; inform the operator of dietary needs in advance so hosts can prepare suitable dishes.
Taza has long been a strategic gateway between the Rif and the interior plains, its walls and stairways reflecting centuries of Berber, Arab and Andalusian influences.
Tazekka National Park protects fragmented cedar and oak stands; visitors should stick to trails and avoid leaving waste to help preserve fragile highland ecosystems.
Fes City Travel operates guided outdoor trips and adventures with an emphasis on safety, stewardship, and memorable experiences.
