Each unguided rental comes with a backcountry backpack, avalanche transceiver (beacon), shovel, probe, radio and damage coverage. Our professional staff will get you familiar with the snowmachine, give recommendations on where to ride and get you on your way. Come join CSR and learn what we love about snowmobiling in Colorado. CSR’s Steamboat location is not a ride from location, please plan to rent a trailer or bring your own. Must have a vehicle with towing capacity.
Guests must return the machine full of 91 octane fuel or be charged accordingly. Customers are also responsible for the first $1,000 of damage. This is included in the sled price!
Guests that are doing a sled only rental (no guide) must be familiar with how to operate the snowmobile, what ice scratchers are & how to use them, how to not overheat the snowmobile while riding trail, capable of hooking up to and unhooking a trailer, capable of driving a vehicle while pulling a trailer, capable of loading, securing, and unloading the snowmobile from a trailer, basic mechanical understanding of the machine and how to diagnose issues, and must know the overall basics of how a snowmobile operates.
Guests should also be well equipped to be in the backcountry. This includes having all the tools needed to make on-mountain repairs to the snowmobile, emergency supply kit, first aid kit, rope, fire starter, spare clothing, food & water, & proper backcountry knowledge. While Backcountry first aid and Avalanche knowledge is not required, it is very helpful to have when riding without a guide. If you do not feel comfortable with possessing all of the items mentioned above and nobody else in your group possesses them either, ride with one of our guides and learn how to ride alone before going out on your own.
Ensure your vehicle has sufficient towing capacity and practice trailer hookups before arrival to smoothly transport the snowmobile.
Colder mountain temperatures call for polypropylene base layers, insulating mid-layers, and waterproof outerwear to stay warm and dry.
Return the snowmobile with a full tank of 91 octane fuel to avoid additional charges and keep your ride running strong.
Motocross-style helmets are supplied, but riders must bring or rent goggles for eye protection against snow and wind.
Steamboat Springs has long been a winter sports hub since the early 1900s, originally known for its natural hot springs treasured by Native Utes.
Riders are encouraged to minimize noise and stay on established trails to protect fragile winter ecosystems and local wildlife habitats.
Moisture-wicking base layers keep you dry and warm during long hours in cold conditions.
