A GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD TOUR ROUTE FOR EXPLORER-TRAVELERS!
Chicago's famous "L" train connects many of Chicago's best neighborhoods. We've created a fun tour route that starts on the "beaten path" of downtown, but that takes you directly via "L" train to one of the best neighborhoods in the city, known for its food, shopping, and rich history — Chinatown.
Meeting in the center of the Loop, you'll take an 8-minute "L" ride -- part underground, part above -- to Chinatown, one of Chicago's 200 neighborhoods that most tourists will never experience. And you'll be so glad you did! In Chinatown, you'll learn about the history of the neighborhood itself, along with its architecture and its foods, discovering secrets along the way (like the church where Al Capone's mother prayed for him to clean up his act). This tour ends in Chinatown, allowing you to explore this neighborhood further on your own. With all the amazing restaurants and shops we'll pass by on this tour, you'll have tons of ideas for what to do and where to go afterwards!
NOTE: This is not a food-tasting tour, though we purposely end in this neighborhood so that you can stay and eat after the tour, which we highly recommend!
Plan your trip around the Cermak-Chinatown subway stop for effortless entry to the neighborhood.
Urban sidewalks and streets require sturdy shoes for a smooth walking experience through Chinatown’s busy avenues.
Many small shops and food stalls prefer cash payments, so keep some on hand.
Scheduling ahead ensures guide availability and the best group size for a personalized experience.
Chicago’s Chinatown was established in the early 20th century, becoming a center for Chinese immigrants seeking community and business opportunities.
Local groups work to maintain Chinatown’s cultural heritage and encourage sustainable tourism that respects the neighborhood’s residents and environment.
Essential for navigating city streets and sidewalks comfortably.
