If your a lover of fine wines & want to experience a special day visiting some of the best vineyards of Châteauneuf du Pape, including Château Fortia who's history dates back to the 17th century and in the 19th century under the ownership of Baron Le Roy, created France's first AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) it's the world standard for wine. Time to stop for lunch in the adorable French restaurant in the village. Châteauneuf du Pape is the heart of a region full of history, culture and joie de vivre. At the summit stands the ruined château built by the popes in 14th century as a summer residence to escape the city heat of Avignon. The popes planted the town's first vineyards. During the afternoon a visit to two very different vineyards - first a winemaker with a 8ha vineyard based exclusively on the appellation & second a family estate owned by six generations of wine producers including Lirac & Gigondas. An introduction to the iconic Châteauneuf du Pape wines that produce wine where tradition is enhanced by modernism & excellence, and tasting of course. This is an exceptional day out with quite a few surprises along the way including when possible some interesting and unusual vintages.

The total duration of the tour is 8 hours, assuming pick-up in Avignon, Aix-en-Provence or Marseille. There is a scheduled lunch break at leisure in the village - the cost is not included.
We will arrive to collect you from your hotel or guest house. (If you are staying in a rented apartment or villa, we can arrange that too) This tour is available from Aix-en-Provence, Marseille or Avignon., however it's not suitable if you arrive and depart the same day by cruise ship due to time constraints. We leave by car arriving in the village of Châteauneuf du Pape. Morning visit to Château Fortia then a short drive to the village of Caderousse, for lunch. After lunch a short visit to the castle and old village of Châteauneuf du Pape before visiting two other wineries for tastings to learn about the vines and production of wines in this outstanding region. You will also have the opportunity to taste rarer vintages (subject to availability) at a number of wineries we visit.
