About

The Trip: It is a sea kayaking trip around mythical Aphrodite's Rock. The length of the route will depend on the sea, on travelers’ profile and preferences and time availability.

Our sit-on-top kayaks are light watercraft that can be used by individuals with no kayaking experience for a fun exploration of some of the most scenic coastlines in Cyprus. The water is as a rule crystal clear and our trips are usually unforgettable.

Meet time: At 09:30 (we strongly recommend an even earlier kayaking trip, as the sea tends to be calmer earlier in the morning ). It should be noted that we cannot offer travellers a free ride.

Meeting location: The default is the kiosk/Aphrodite's Rock bust stop. The trip starts at Prolimnos beach (first car accessible beach east of Aphrodite's Rock). If preferred, we can meet at Prolimnos beach.

Itinerary: Aphrodite's Rock is one of the main attractions in Cyprus, both with regards to nature as well as our cultural heritage. It is considered to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty and as such, it is part of the Unesco World Heritage site of Paphos. The spot is beautiful, decorated by peculiar rock formations (several, besides the Rock itself) different geological strata (including magmatic) and neighbours the imposing chalky White Cliffs, which at places reach heights of between 100 to 150 meters.

Our kayaking trip starts at Prolimnos beach, the first beach east of the Rock, accessible by car. It should be noted that as this is a private trip, the exact route (including its length) can be customised and finetuned, based on the sea conditions and the explorers profile and preferences.

The standard route goes towards the west and back and is about 4.5 km long. It passed by a small stretch of a shorter part of the white cliffs, a number of rocky limestone islets (which deserve exploration - they have various openings and at times waterbirds on the top), peculiar colours on the coast (dark brown or grey right next to light colours) and reaches as far west as the Rock of Aphrodite.

If time is available, after we return to Prolimnos beach from the west, we may go east towards the main body of the White Cliffs in order to have a more complete experience of the imposing cliffs. For those who want a longer route, usually we go as far east as Lachanikon beach, bringing the length of the route to over ten km long (this should be booked as a different trip).

This is one of the best kayaking routes on the island. Enjoy the ride!

Exclusions

Food & drinks

Please note

Confirmation will be received at time of booking A maximum of upto two travellers kayaking at any time. Not recommended for participants with heart complaints or other serious medical conditions. Travelers can present either a paper or an electronic voucher for this activity. Minors can participate provided they are escorted by their parent(s).

Each kayak has a listed maximum capacity of 125 kg. I recommend a payload of no more than 100 kg.

If the sea is expected to be bad, we cancel the trip.

What to bring

Water is a must (though one could buy even at Aphrodite's Rock kiosk). Sun protection, bathing suite, snorkelling equipment, towels. Please keep in mind that while we do provide things like a dry bag, travellers should be clear that they would probably get wet and they should not bring along things that would be damaged by salt water. The kayaks are light, only 18 kilograms each and can go relatively fast, depending also on the weight on them. There is some storage place on them. At the same time, people should keep in mind that increasing the weight on the sea kayaking, increases the work they would need to do to move the kayak forward.
