The Appian Way, or Via Appia Antica, is famously known as the "Queen of Roads," stretching through the Roman countryside and playing a vital role in the expansion of the ancient empire. This tour highlights some of its most evocative sites, including the haunting Catacombs of Santa Domitilla. These underground burial grounds date back to the second century and are among the oldest Christian catacombs in Rome, offering a fascinating glimpse into early Christian art and history.
Along the route, you'll pass the Circus of Maxentius—an ancient Roman chariot racing stadium whose ruins evoke the grand spectacle of old—and the striking Tomb of Cecilia Metella. This iconic mausoleum, with its distinctive circular structure, stands as a testament to Roman funerary architecture and makes for a striking photo backdrop.
