About

On Saturday, June 1st, in conjunction with WMSE’s Chicken Shack Radio Show, Great Lakes Distillery will release its third batch of Chicken Shack Straight Rye Whiskey, and hosting its third annual outdoor show with headliner Them Coulee Boys and special guests The MilBillies and Luke Callen. To round things off, the folks from City Lights Brewing Co. will be bringing out a bunch of tasty beers. Several local food trucks will be on-hand during the show to keep everyone fed.

Tickets for the event are $25 each and the first 500 tickets sold will include a Plucker’s Punch featuring rye whiskey. Great Lakes Distillery offers ample parking, however we advocate for a planned safe ride home and will have designated areas for Uber/Lyft pick-up and drop-off.

Them Coulee Boys craft a brand of Americana that blends folk, punk, bluegrass, and rock & roll. They sing their conversational songs in 4 part harmony, often with a banjo stomp and rhythm section punch that drives the audience onto the dance floor and into community. Their trusty van has propelled them thousands of miles across the country and into the hearts of strangers, who tend to leave each show as family. It’s music that creates community through the shared experience of joy and giving a $h!t.

Supporting Them Coulee Boys will be Milwaukee’s own The MilBillies. Established in late 2018, The MilBillies immediately hit the ground running, bringing their unique synthesis of traditional and progressive bluegrass to venues and festivals throughout the upper midwest and beyond. The MilBillies project a veritable wall of sound, starting with an intentional focus on melodic lyricism in songwriting and finishing with an unparalleled, action-packed live performance.

The night begins with Luke Callen. Originally from La Crosse, WI, he currently lives in Minneapolis, MN, by way of Colorado. A teller of tall tales and a singer of short tunes, his no-frills arrangement style is like a drink of water for those of us who crave something real and honest to listen to. The sonic palette pays homage to a whole plethora of elements endemic to the American music tradition without feeling derivative or landing too hard on any one side of the genre question.

Join us on Saturday, June 1st, at 616 W. Virginia St., to enjoy bluegrass music, craft cocktails, craft beer, and local food. Gates open at 5:00pm, and the show starts at 6:00pm. This show is ages 21+ and is on rain or shine!
