Embark on a breathtaking full-day adventure featuring a scenic river-trail walk, an exhilarating bike ride, and a magical twilight glow worm kayak tour. Experience stunning views along the Waikato River, enjoy a delightful lunch at Rhubarb Cafe, and end your day floating through a canyon illuminated by twinkling glow worms.
The day starts at our Riverside Adventures base where we will fit you with your bikes before hopping aboard our comfortable shuttle van to Jones Landing, where your adventure begins.
You will enjoy an easy hour-long walk along the Waikato River trail where you will experience views of nearby Lake Arapuni and beyond.
We will meet you at the end of the trail with your bikes. The 2km ride begins at the Arapuni Dam and continues along the Waikato River Trail to village of Arapuni where you will stop for lunch at the popular Rhubarb Cafe.
Following lunch, your bike ride continues for 12km, returning you back to our base where you can pause before the day’s final adventure.
Next, your guide will help you get kitted out and ready for the Twilight Kayak Glow Worm Tour.
Over the next three hours bask in the magic of the Pokaiwhenua canyon as you hear stories from your experienced guide, a few tasty treats and, finally, an experience like no other as you float silently back through the canyon surrounded by twinkling glow worms, stars above – and, if you’re lucky, the tranquil sound of the day’s rainwater making its way down the canyon walls.
Carry at least 1 liter of water and some snacks to stay fueled during the walk and bike segments.
Prepare for cooler temperatures near dusk during the kayak trip by dressing in breathable, quick-dry layers.
Wear a helmet and use bike lights for added safety during the cycling portions of the trip.
