If this is your first skydive, then the tandem jump is absolutely the way to go! It is one of the most popular ways to experience skydiving for the first time. The tandem skydive experience is where two people jump out of an airplane together, strapped to one another during the entire descent. The connecting straps make it so that one person is floating above the other during the free fall with one’s back against the other’s frontside. There are four points of connection on the harness – one at each shoulder and one at each hip. It allows the student the ability to look down and around without your instructor blocking your view.
Many people like to come out to make a tandem skydive for special occasions such as a birthday, graduation, or anniversary present. Some lovebirds even like to do it as a marriage proposal.
Tandem skydiving involves a certified instructor and a student. Your instructor is a licensed skydiver, who has gone through rigorous and intense training in order to take you on your first skydive. They are certified through the United States Parachute Association, as well, as the gear manufacturer.
Since you will be jumping with a certified tandem instructor, who will be doing most of the work ,you will only need to attend a brief skydiving training prior to your skydive. You will receive the training from your instructor before you make your skydive. You will learn how you can help your instructor during the free fall and landing in order to have the best experience possible. It is the student's responsibility to maintain the correct body position for exit and free fall, and for lifting their legs for landing.
