ABOUT

The Scenic Snowmobile Tour at HEENEY is a slow paced tour that goes up the mountain, rewarding you with expansive views that you only get with an elevated overlook. On a clear day, you can see over 40 miles and look over the top of the Continental Divide at Rocky Mountain National Park and north to Rabbit Ears Pass. If it’s really clear, you can see mountains over 70 miles away.

First, you will receive instruction on how to operate the snowmobile at the beginning of the tour. Next you will head out onto the the trail that gently takes you up the mountain.

During your tour, your guide will stop you at great places to take pictures and at the Cocoa Cabin so you can warm up sipping hot chocolate while overlooking the Eagles Nest Wilderness. Also, let your guide know if you want to open up the throttle on the 3/4 mile long track. You can also let your kids ride the kiddie snowmobiles at this stop.

This guided snowmobile tour which will last approximately 2 hours with the Safety Talk that includes instruction on the operation of the snowmobile.

WHO

While it’s best suited for those lacking experience with snowmobiling or families with children, this popular tour is great for snowmobilers of all types. Anyone can enjoy the breathtaking views and good times tooling around on the trails or playing on our oval track in the meadow.

  • CHILDREN -- ALL passengers MUST be able to sit behind the driver and hold on by themselves without supervision for the duration of the tour. [Even on a 3-seater snowmobile, both passengers must be able to hold on by themselves, as there can be times when that is needed.] We normally see this happening between 4-6 years old, depending on the child. Passengers canNOT sit in front of the driver at any point. No Infants. We recommend that pregnant ladies do NOT participate.

  • MINORS (anyone under the age of 18 yrs old) MUST be accompanied by their legal guardian, who is also a participant on the tour, to participate.

  • PETS are not allowed on tour, and should not be allowed to run freely in the parking/check-in areas.

LOCATION -- Heeney Outpost

We serve the Breckenridge and Keystone areas, but the towns do not allow motorized sports in town, so we are all on the outskirts. Our HEENEY OUTPOST (7101 Heeney Road, Silverthorne, CO) is located about 45-50 minutes from Breckenridge/Keystone, with good road conditions.

TRANSPORTATION

If you don’t have your own vehicle, there are several shuttle companies in the area that have done a great job for past customers:

  • Jake’s Mountain Shuttle 970-401-0988

(Ride share apps (Uber, etc) do NOT work reliably, as we are outside of town.)

What happens if I damage a snowmobile?

You are responsible for repairs of any collision damages that you may have caused. The good news is that High Country Tours offers our “Snowmobile Repair Fund.” By contributing $30 (per driver) to this fund before your tour, you will be responsible for the first $1500 of damage done to the snowmobile you were driving. After that, the Repair Fund will kick in and cover the cost of repairing the snowmobile that you were operating. Considering that some of our machines cost over $16,000, this could be a very wise choice. This option is available when you make your reservation.
