Outside your window is the beautiful Heritage Rail Trail County Park and southern York County countryside on this trip to Hanover Junction. Our historic PRR GP9 Diesel Locomotive built in 1959 will take you back in time to the 1860s when President Abraham Lincoln rode these tracks on his way to Gettysburg to deliver the Gettysburg Address. The excursion includes a 20-minute stopover at the Hanover Junction Museum. Enjoy the Mid Century coach car by visiting both cars during the trip. Included with your trip is a box lunch of your choice.

Overland Trail Lounge Car

The Overland Trail was built by the Pullman Standard Car Manufacturing Company in 1949. The 39-seat club-lounge car was originally owned by Southern Pacific Railroad and then Amtrak. It features a Streamline Moderne design, a quarter-circle bar, and a barbershop. The Overland Trail has been in the care of Bill Hatrick since 1987.
Trips can fill quickly on weekends and holidays—reserve your seat in advance to ensure availability.
The outdoor views are spectacular but can be chilly in the spring and fall—layer your clothing.
Wildlife and historic railroad structures along the line are easier to spot with binoculars.
Give yourself time before your ride to walk around New Freedom’s quaint downtown and visit the rail museum.
