The Presidential Yacht USS Potomac is a historically preserved vessel. As such, it does not fully comply with the facility access standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
In a few areas of the ship, there is limited access to some individuals who are mobility impaired, depending upon their capabilities. The maximum wheelchair width (outside of wheel to outside of wheel) is 25 inches.
Chairs are available on board. Many people who use walkers and other assistive devices have successfully cruised on the Potomac. Between her three decks, there are steep stairs with hand railings. People who have some mobility challenges will need to assess their own capabilities for using these stairs safely.
Wheelchairs are limited to the main deck only where there is still much to see, experience, and enjoy. Due to raised thresholds at their doorways, a slight step down, and narrow stalls, the restrooms unfortunately are not accessible to the wheelchair-bound. However, public restrooms are available next to the Potomac at the Ferry Landing terminal.
USS Potomac docents and crew are not allowed to provide physical assistance to mobility impaired individuals; including lifting occupied wheelchairs over obstacles.
