The first light on the Indus floods the courtyard as you step off the transfer and breathe the thin, dry air of Leh—sharp, clean, and alive. Over the next eight days the landscape rearranges itself: wind-sculpted gompas perch on ochre cliffs, deserts give way to dune-strewn river valleys, and a salt lake at 4,350 m shimmers like a liquid sky.
