About This Adventure

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of Shaker design with a special stamp release showcasing the elegance of their craftsmanship. Join us at the historic 1831 Trustees’ Building to explore these unique stamps, featuring iconic Shaker items, and view the Canterbury-made chair on display in our current exhibition.

Issued to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the first Shakers in America, these stamps celebrate the refined, timeless beauty of Shaker design. From modest oval boxes to furniture, textiles, and architecture, the Shakers imbued everything they made with uncommon grace. These 12 stamps feature photographs of items that highlight the core elements of Shaker design: simplicity and utility.

Please join us as we open the post office in the Village’s 1831 Trustees’ Building to celebrate this beautiful stamp issue. The stamps will be available for sale. The Canterbury-made chair featured on one of the stamps is on display in the Village’s current exhibition, For Shakers By Shakers: Canterbury Shaker Furniture From The Collection.
