The boat slips forward and the mangrove tunnels close like a made corridor — roots tangling over salt-streaked water, sunlight splintering through leaves. In two hours you’ll move from the sheltered labyrinth of red and black mangroves out into the broad, shallow sweep of the Ten Thousand Islands, where tides and weather carve ever-changing channels and the horizon opens to sky.
easy.
2 hours.
Light-moderate — you’ll board a small boat and remain seated; some balance required for boarding and in choppy water.
The tour runs approximately 120 minutes and departs from the meeting point inside the Tower Gift Shop at 905 Copeland Ave., Everglades City.
Typical sightings include dolphins, manatees, alligators, and a variety of shore and wading birds — sightings vary by season and tides.
Children can ride but must be supervised; the operator notes the tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries and requires moderate physical fitness for safe boarding.
Tours may be cancelled for bad weather; the cancellation policy allows a full refund if cancelled at least 24 hours before departure.
The Ten Thousand Islands region has long been used by Calusa and Seminole peoples and later by shrimpers and fishermen; conservation efforts in the 20th century helped establish the national park boundaries protecting this coastal mosaic.
This estuarine ecosystem is sensitive to freshwater flow changes and pollution — stay on sanctioned channels, avoid feeding wildlife, and follow guide instructions to minimize disturbance.
