A cold dawn at Lukla feels like the first page of an expedition journal: thin air, bright sky, and a runway that drops away toward the valley. From that small alpine airport the trail threads through pine forests, crosses the Dudh Koshi’s milky rapids on swinging suspension bridges and climbs, step by step, into a landscape of rock, ice and prayer flags.

Good cardiovascular fitness and experience with multi-day hikes; ability to hike 5–8 hours on uneven terrain at altitude.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most stable weather and clear mountain views; spring also brings rhododendron blooms and heavier trekking traffic.
Typical itineraries run 12–14 days from Lukla to EBC and back; the difficulty is challenging mainly because of altitude and long days rather than technical climbing.
No formal climbing experience is required, but prior multi-day trekking and good fitness will improve comfort and reduce risk of altitude-related issues.
A licensed guide is highly recommended for navigation, acclimatization management and emergency care; porters are common and helpful for carrying heavy luggage.
