Wind cuts like a bell across the moraine as the trail climbs out of Gorakshep toward the black ridge of Kala Patthar. Hikers move in single file—breathing measured, packs creaking—while the summit pyramid of Everest appears and disappears with passing cloud. This is a trek defined by elevation: flights into Lukla (2,860 m), days that top out at Gorakshep (5,150 m) and a final photo line at Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Kala Patthar (~5,545 m).
