Evening Jazz, Blues & Soul at ProArts Playhouse in Kihei

An Evening with Anthony Pfluke & Friends takes place in Kihei, Hawaii at 1280 S Kihei Rd, Kihei, HI 96753, a short walk from the ocean and the broad beaches of South Maui. Presented by ProArts Playhouse and Mana'o Radio, this intimate 90-minute concert brings together Tim Hackbarth, Martin Fera and Jerry Kovarsky with guest appearances by Grammy Award–winning saxophonist Rock Hendricks and vocalist Sheryl Renee. The Blues, Rock & Soul Revue celebrates thirteen years with new singles “Red Beans and Rice” and “Purgatory (Call It An Emergency),” and an evening here feels like being folded into a house band’s midnight set at a seaside town hall. The room is small enough that the breath of a saxophone carries to the back row, and large enough to let musicians stretch into long, soulful phrases. Expect original tunes threaded with jazz phrasing, blues grit and soul-inflected choruses—arrangements that reward repeat visits because players riff off one another in real time. R.E. Metoyer’s creative leadership shapes the setlist; follow his socials for updates on song drops and guest rotations. Kihei itself raises the experience: show up early to catch sunset light over West Maui before the house lights dim. Nearby beaches—Kamaole I, II and III—offer a chance to trade sand for seats, and Kealia Pond lies a short drive north for birdwatching before the show. Parking is available near the meeting address, and the neighborhood’s low-rise commercial strip gives walk-in dining options for pre-show meals. Why this event stands out: local presenters ProArts Playhouse and Mana'o Radio root the show in Maui’s music community rather than a tourist circuit. The lineup blends established names and local players, producing a sound both polished and immediate. For travelers looking to pair outdoor days with a genuine night out, this concert is a cultural antidote to resort entertainment. Practical notes: the performance runs 90 minutes with no intermission—arrive early for good seats. The venue supports small-run live music; be ready for close encounters with instruments, conversational volume, and crowd-driven energy. Whether you’re tracking down live jazz on Maui or want a soulful night after a day on the water, this is an efficient, authentic slice of local music culture in Kihei. Book via the event link to confirm seats and check the 48-hour cancellation policy for full refunds. Expect casual island attire, attentive staff, and a crowd that leans local rather than tourist. Photography is welcomed during songs but avoid intrusive flash on soloists. If you can, linger after the final number to meet performers; conversations with band members often turn into recommendations for local jams and open mic nights. This compact concert is a reliable evening option for music-forward travelers on Maui and visitors.
