This tranquil body of water is the stage for Venture Outdoors / Kayak Pittsburgh’s Evening Fishing & Kayaking program, a weekly opportunity running every Monday from May through October. From 4 to 6 p.m., anglers and paddlers of all skill levels gather to engage with the outdoors in a hands-on, inclusive environment led by knowledgeable Outdoor Educators.
What sets this program apart isn’t just the serene setting, but its accessibility and community-driven approach. Whether you’re a novice aiming to cast your first line or a rapidly advancing kayaker eager to glide over glassy waters at sunset, all equipment is provided—rods, reels, bait, kayaks, PFDs, and more. The program removes typical barriers like fishing licenses, thanks to a special exemption secured through the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Plus, children as young as three can safely participate, fostering early connection with outdoor recreation alongside parents.

Yes, children as young as 3 can fish or kayak with appropriate adult supervision according to program guidelines.
No fishing license is required to join this program thanks to a special certification by the instructors.
Kayaking will be canceled if Canonsburg Lake’s water temperature is 65°F or below; fishing continues as normal.
All fishing and kayaking gear including rods, bait, kayaks, paddles, and life jackets are supplied free of charge.
Pre-registration is required via Venture Outdoors booking channels to ensure your spot and gear availability.
