You step off the coastal train with the Atlantic-grey surf to your left and a ridgeline rising like a challenge to your right. The Escarpment Track runs narrow along the Kāpiti Coast, a spine of weathered sandstone and resilient scrub that gives and then rewards: sudden clears frame Kāpiti Island as if on a moving stage.

Kāpiti Island is a predator-free reserve important for native bird recovery; stay on marked trails, pack out rubbish and respect wildlife to support local conservation efforts.
