At The Gentle Barn we are not only here for animals, but once the animals are ready, we partner with them to heal people going through the same stories of trauma, or for those simply wanting to experience a greater sense of joy in their lives.
We have three animal therapy modalities, Cow Hug Therapy, Equine Therapy & Barnyard Therapy. For best results we highly recommend you choose Cow Hug Therapy for your first visit to center yourself and then return for equine or barnyard therapy.
Each of the three healing modalities has something different and truly remarkable to offer anyone searching for hope and healing. You can book as often as you need to, we are always here for you.
Do you want to work on leadership and life skills? Are you looking to create more self awareness and learn how to connect more deeply with others? Do you want to find you own inner strength and courage? Our horses and donkeys can help you!
Equine therapy allows us to practice confidence and leadership skills. Through a specific Gentle Barn technique of grooming horses, you will become aware of your own body language and that of the horse and connect deeply. Afterward, you will take your horse on a walk and immediately get feedback from the horse as she or he trusts and follows you. In the horse world, no two horses are the same; one is the leader, and one is the follower. The same is true when we are in the company of a horse. In this program, you will learn how to hold your body, transmit your intention, and convey your energy to become a gentle leader. Each equine therapy session is an hour long, is perfect for anyone looking to expand their inner strength, courage, leadership, and voice, and can be used either in tandem with or outside of traditional talk therapy.
Each equine therapy session is for one hour and work best for one individual at a time, although we do allow guests to bring a spouse or older child when requested. It is for people ages fourteen and older. Equine Therapy is not just for fun; we have private tours and are open to the public on Sundays for animal lovers who want to meet our animals. Equine Therapy is intended for those who are looking for confidence, inner strength, and healing from whatever you are going through.
Equine Therapy is a therapeutic experience in which you can spend one-on-one time connecting with the horses of The Gentle Barn, allowing you to brush them in a very specific way while you earn their trust and learn from their body language. The Gentle Barn's staff or volunteer are there to facilitate the connection and provide safety between you and the horse but they are NOT therapists, and in no way offer medical or mental health advice themselves. In the event that additional mental health support is needed, The Gentle Barn recommends reaching out a licensed mental health clinician.
At The Gentle Barn, our animals always come first. Our animals get to live their very best lives, eat on a schedule, and spend time with their friends. Our tours and guests get to enjoy the animals, while the animals are enjoying their natural lives and may not always be available. Thanks for the understanding and for loving animals with us.
