Beginner Horsemanship & Western Riding Lessons Overview
Welcome to Our Beginner Program! Our lessons are designed for beginners 6 years old and up whether you’ve never been on a horse or want to feel more confident in the saddle. We combine Horsemanship and Beginner Western Riding in each session to give you the full picture of what it means to work with a horse.
What You’ll Learn
Horsemanship (Groundwork & Horse Care)
Grooming & Tack: You’ll brush your horse, pick its hooves, and learn to safely saddle it.
Horse Communication: Learn to read ears, eyes, and body language to understand what your horse is thinking.
Groundwork Skills: Practice leading, steering, and moving your horse from the ground, building trust and respect.
Confidence & Safety: Develop a calm, confident approach to horses — the foundation of safe riding.
Beginner Western Riding (In the Saddle)
Mounting & Dismounting: Learn to safely get on and off the horse.
Basic Riding Cues: Use reins, legs, and body to ask your horse to walk, stop, and turn.
Balance & Posture: Develop correct riding position to stay safe and ride with comfort.
Trail & Arena Practice: Apply your skills in a controlled environment to build confidence.
Why We Couple Horsemanship and Riding Many beginner programs focus only on getting you on a horse, but riding without understanding the horse is like driving a car you’ve never looked under the hood of. By combining horsemanship with riding, our students:
Gain a full understanding of horse behavior.
Build confidence on the ground and in the saddle.
Develop respect and trust with the horse from the very first lesson.
Progress safely, step-by-step, setting them up for long-term success in riding and horse care.
