About This Adventure

Join the Surf Sistas Club for an empowering surfing experience tailored for women! Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your skills, enjoy supportive coaching in a fun, community-focused environment. With flexible programs and all gear provided, you'll build confidence and make lasting connections while riding the waves.

About:

Get out in the water consistently for some fun with the girls.

The Surf Sistas Club is a designed as an ongoing weekly surfing program for all women to learn to surf, progress week on week and build more confidence in the ocean.

  • Runs every Saturday or Sunday
  • 9.30 to 11am - Based at Te Arai or Forestry Beach.
  • Target maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 5/6 Sistas
  • Women and young adults
  • Ages 13+

All surfboards and wetsuits are provided or you can bring your own! The day before we email you letting you know what beach we will be meeting at and education for the week!

Outline:

BEGINNER GROUP:

  • Beach awareness, understanding the wind and waves, oceans and tides and staying safe at the beach.
  • Surfboard design and use, sea entry and correct surfboard handling.
  • Catching waves with correct body and hand position, stopping your surfboard.
  • Catching waves with paddling technique, learning the pop up to stand technique.
  • Standing surfing position and riding a wave for as long as possible.
  • Better paddling techniques for speed and efficiency.
  • Getting out past breaking waves.

INTERMEDIATE GROUP:

  • Reading waves and understanding the different types of waves, what to catch, when to and why.
  • Catching the unbroken wave.
  • Timing & take offs.
  • Frontside / backside turns and riding down the face of the wave

Surf Sistas is based at Te Arai Beach & Forestry beaches. We will email you weekly to let you know the conditions for the day

Adventure Tips

Arrive Early for Check-In

Plan to arrive at least 5-10 minutes before your session to ensure a timely start and go through warm-ups and safety briefings without rushing.

Bring Swimwear and Warm Layers

Wear swimwear under your wetsuit and bring warm clothing for after your session to stay comfortable.

Stay Hydrated

Bring a water bottle and drink plenty of fluids before and after your session to maintain energy in the coastal sun.

Be Ready for Variable Weather

Surf Sistas sessions run rain or shine, so prepare for changing conditions and trust your coaches’ safety plans including possible reschedules.
