You push through old-growth fir and cedar, boots sinking into a carpet of needles, while the trail climbs and the city below recedes. The forest breathes around you; streams dare you to linger, scree slopes test your steadiness, and after hours of steady ascent a blue-green bowl appears—Elsay Lake—framed by sheer cliffs that hold the wind in place.

Expect roughly 18–20 km roundtrip from Mount Seymour trailheads, with 1,000+ m of elevation gain depending on route—plan 8–12 hours including breaks.
Sections are marked but there are unmarked gullies and scree fields; route-finding skills or a guided group are recommended.
This is not suitable for beginners—travelers should have experience on long alpine hikes, strong fitness, and comfort with exposure and loose terrain.
Day use requires no permit, but overnighting is restricted in some park zones—check Mount Seymour Provincial Park regulations and follow Leave No Trace rules.
Mount Seymour and surrounding ranges are on the traditional territories of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples; trails cross landscapes long used for travel and seasonal resource gathering.
Trail erosion and campsite impacts are the main concerns—stick to durable surfaces, pack out waste, and avoid creating new campsites to protect fragile alpine soils.
