Adventure tips

Dress in layersSan Francisco’s microclimates mean sun at one stop and wind at the next—carry a light windbreaker and a warm mid-layer.

Bring a wide-angle lensGolden Gate and Palace of Fine Arts photos benefit from a wider field of view; a smartphone with panorama mode also works.

Time your visitBook morning or late-afternoon departures to avoid midday fog and heavy crowds at popular stops like Pier 39 and Alamo Square.

Mobility and short walksExpect short, uneven-surface walks at Lands End and the Palace of Fine Arts—bring sturdy shoes and plan for 10–30 minute strolls at each stop.

Recommended gear

Windproof jacket: Blocks bay winds and keeps you comfortable during coastal stops.
Comfortable walking shoes: Necessary for uneven boardwalks, sand, and short trail sections at Lands End.
Water bottle: Stay hydrated during a multi-hour tour with several stops and photo ops.
Camera or smartphone with wide-angle mode: Captures sweeping bridge and bay views—useful for low-light morning or evening shots.
