El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System and was revered by the Taíno people; many place names and local traditions reflect that heritage.
The forest's watershed is fragile—stay on trails, avoid using soaps in pools, and pack out all trash to protect water quality and endemic species.
