You step off the minibus where the paved road thins and the rainforest pushes forward—bamboo trunks ticking in a humid wind, distant water daring you deeper into green. The first stretch is an honest, muddy climb along rock and root; every footlift pushes through the forest's humid breath until the river appears, bright and insistent, with pools tucked beneath small waterfalls.

Good cardiovascular fitness and leg strength recommended; must be comfortable with sustained uphill hiking, wet/muddy terrain, and short rock scrambles.
Pickup and drop-off are included for select San Juan areas; expect about 1.5 hours each way depending on traffic.
No formal certification required, but participants should be comfortable in water and able to scramble over rocks; guides provide helmets and lifejackets.
Children must be accompanied by an adult; the operator notes it’s not suitable for children under 7 years due to terrain and water activities.
The tour may be canceled for safety if weather or river conditions are unsafe; refunds follow the operator’s cancellation policy if called off.
The area around El Yunque was used by the indigenous Taino and later protected as part of early 20th-century conservation efforts; the forest is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System.
Stay on established routes and avoid collecting plants or stones; the operator encourages low-impact practices and uses carry-in/carry-out guidelines for trash.
