The levada walk is short (about 40–45 minutes) and rated easy, but sections are narrow and can be wet—good footwear is recommended.
Lunch is not included; the tour stops for about 1.5 hours in Santana where you can buy local food or bring your own.
The operator notes stroller access and infant seats are available, but narrow levada sections are best avoided with very young children.
Santana’s triangular thatched houses reflect 16th–18th century rural architecture tied to agricultural life; sugarcane and rum production shaped the island’s coastal settlements.
The Laurissilva forest is a UNESCO World Heritage site—stay on levada paths and follow guide instructions to minimize erosion and protect endemic species.
