Row across Derwentwater’s still waters before sunrise with Nichol End Marine’s early morning rowing boat hire. Discover peaceful wildlife encounters and the quiet beauty of Portinscale’s lakeside landscape.
Sunrise sessions & early morning sessions. Book by 6pm previous day.
Fancy exploring Derwentwater just as the day is beginning? Before work or life gets in the way? Before the lake gets busy?
The lake is usually very quiet at this time of day, and we have staff getting started making the scones and baking for the day so we can organise this for you.
The sunrise sessions start 10-20 minutes before sunrise - there is enough light to navigate by and ensures you have enough time to get out onto the lake to see the sunrise.
The morning is a fantastic time to explore the lake, and gives you your best chance to spot deer, kingfishers, otters, ospreys and a host of other wildlife. Hire a rowing boat at Nichol End and explore Derwentwater
About Perfect for an afternoon of romance, our boats have been the scene of many a first date or proposal…but they are also a great choice for a family outing too.
Duration 2 Hours
More info Rowing boats are a popular choice for families with children, as they are sturdy and stable and there is plenty of opportunity to help row, but also to rest and enjoy the ride. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times and if older children take out their own boat, an adult must stay within a minutes row of their boat.
Rowing boats are suitable for small children - assuming there is a parent to row, and a parent to hold the child. Short sessions are advised for first trips out - speak to our staff for advice. We will carefully risk assess on the day, the current and forecasted weather, lake conditions and abilities, to ensure the safety of all customers. If the activity you have booked cannot proceed, then we will offer an alternative activity or a refund. If you wish to discuss your family's requirements in advance of booking, please give us a call or send us an email.
What to bring On hot sunny days, we advise sunglasses, a hat, sun tan lotion and a bottle of water.
On cold days, warm, waterproof and windproof clothing is advised and a blanket for your passengers can be very welcomed.
A picnic is a popular choice on a rowing boat.
Arrive 10-20 minutes early to catch enough light for navigation and maximize your time on the water during dawn’s quietest moments.
Mornings on the lake can be chilly; wear warm, waterproof clothing and bring a blanket for passengers.
Look along the shore for kingfishers, otters, and deer, which are active during early morning hours.
Rowing boats are stable but children must be supervised at all times by an adult within a minute’s row.
