Enjoy breathtaking views, exhilarating downhills, and the option for a refreshing swim at the Mangaohane Bridge, all while riding comfortable e-bikes.

The Big Backcountry Ride

Full Day Bike Ride

We take you on a drive for about 55 minutes to a high point on the Napier – Taihape Road, the famous Gentle Annie. From here, you can enjoy 40kms riding back to River Valley Lodge. This is a leisurely ride, with several very long downhills and a couple of significant uphills. This ride starts in the high country, with spectacular views of Mt. Ruapehu and the Otupae and Ruahine Ranges.

The route takes you through Otupae and Mangaohane Stations, and then over the Rangitikei River at the Mangaohane Bridge, where, if it is a hot day, you may choose to go for a swim.

We have a range of e-bike sizes, from XS-XL, and two frame types, either step through or a more mountain bike style. The Liv Tempt bikes are primarily designed for women, whereas the Giant Talon bikes are unisex.

Inclusions

The base price includes a shuttle for 1-6 people. Additional people can be added on, up to a maximum of 15 people. There is the option to add on a yummy picnic lunch and e-bike hire.
