You start in Chora with the sea behind you and a quiet stone lane in front, the island's heat lifting off low walls as the e‑bike hums awake. Pedaling past olive groves and small gardens, the ride tightens your focus: birds flare, the scent of fig and herb follows, and the island’s geology—sunburnt schist and compacted terraces—becomes a handrail that guides the path.

Skarkos is a well‑preserved Early Bronze Age settlement that links Ios to the Cycladic world; the island’s terraces and olive groves reflect centuries of small‑scale farming and pastoral life.
Stick to marked paths around archaeological sites and support the small cheesery by buying directly; minimizing single‑use plastics helps protect fragile island ecosystems.
