You step into a low-slung African gondola and the city noise thins; canal water slips past timber and concrete, reflecting iron bridges and the high-rises beyond. For thirty minutes the Point Waterfront Canal rearranges perspective: traffic becomes backdrop, fish flicker under the surface, and the gondolier’s steady glide sets the rhythm.

The Point Waterfront is accessible by local buses, taxis, and rideshares; the harbor district is walkable from central Durban attractions and the Golden Mile.
Durban’s Point area grew around maritime trade in the 19th and 20th centuries and has been redeveloped into a mixed-use waterfront for recreation and tourism.
The canal and waterfront are affected by urban runoff and invasive plants; operators and local groups encourage minimal littering and respect for aquatic life.
