History

This area sits along historic Bedouin travel corridors; modern safaris borrow elements of desert hospitality—coffee, storytelling, and evening gatherings—to introduce visitors to local culture.

Conservation

Operators often work outside protected reserves; stick to tracks, avoid littering, and choose providers that limit off-route driving to reduce dune erosion and disturbance to wildlife.

Adventure tips

Hydrate before and afterDrink water before pickup and carry a bottle—desert air is dry and you’ll dehydrate faster than you expect.

Wear closed-toe shoesFine sand hides hot surfaces and sharp vegetation; sturdy shoes keep sand out and provide traction for climbing dunes.

Manage motion sicknessIf you’re prone to nausea, take antiemetic meds before the dune-bash section and sit near the front seat of the vehicle.

Charge devices and use a lens clothSand and heat can fog lenses—bring spare batteries and a microfiber cloth for clearer sunset photos.

Recommended gear

Closed-toe hiking shoes or sneakers: Keeps sand out and provides grip when walking on loose dunes.
High-SPF sunscreen and sunglasses: UV exposure is intense in the desert—protect skin and eyes during daylight hours.
Light windproof jacket or shawl: Desert nights can be cool; a thin layer stops evening chill and wind-blown sand.
Anti-nausea medication (if needed): Helpful for guests prone to motion sickness during dune bashing.
