History

Dubai evolved from a 19th‑century fishing and pearling settlement into a trade hub, then rapidly expanded through oil revenues and large‑scale development projects from the 1970s onward.

Conservation

Coastal reclamation and rapid urban growth have altered habitats; respect protected zones (like Ras Al Khor), minimize litter, and follow local drone and wildlife regulations.

Adventure tips

Start early to beat heat and crowdsMorning light at Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina is cooler and better for photos; traffic back to Ras Al‑Khaimah can add time in the afternoon.

Confirm attraction admissionsSeveral sites (Burj Khalifa, select museum exhibits) require separate tickets—check before you go to avoid surprises.

Carry a refillable water bottleDubai is arid and you’ll be outdoors between stops; many venues have refill stations or cafes to top up.

Dress respectfully at public beaches and cultural sitesLightweight, modest clothing is appropriate in many public areas—have a scarf or cover‑up handy for visits near cultural sites.

Recommended gear

Comfortable walking shoes: Supportive shoes handle promenade surfaces and short stair sections across attractions.
Sun hat and sunglasses: Protects from strong sun during daytime stops on Palm Jumeirah and Marina Walk.
Reusable water bottle: Keeps you hydrated between stops and reduces single‑use plastic.
Light daypack: Carries water, tickets, a light cover‑up and small purchases while moving between sites.
