History

Dubai’s coastline shifted from fishing and pearling ports to rapid urban development in the late 20th century; Palm Jumeirah and modern marinas are products of large-scale land reclamation and real estate investment.

Conservation

Coastal development has altered marine habitats; operators and visitors are encouraged to avoid littering and to choose tours that follow local marine guidelines to minimize disturbance.

Adventure tips

Morning light is bestBook the earliest sailing to avoid heat and get softer light for photos of Atlantis and Burj Al Arab.

Pack sun protectionSunscreen, a brimmed hat, and sunglasses are essential—even in winter mornings—because reflected light off the water intensifies exposure.

Bring a small camera or phone gimbalThe vessel moves steadily; a gimbal or steady hand will improve wide shots of the Palm and Burj Al Arab.

Mind your footing on deckDecks can be wet from spray—wear shoes with good grip and use railings when moving around.

Recommended gear

Sunscreen (SPF 30+): Protects against strong UV from direct sun and reflection off the water.
Sunglasses and hat: Reduces glare for better photos and comfort on an exposed deck.
Light wind layer: Mornings and open-water stretches can be breezy—bring a breathable jacket.
Camera or smartphone with stabilizer: Wide views of the Palm and Burj Al Arab are the trip’s highlights—stabilized photos look best.
