The sun has not yet hardened the sand when your vehicle rolls onto the first face of the red dunes — a sweep of wind-sculpted ridgelines that seem to push and pull you forward. Air hums with engine and expectation as the driver lines up for the first run; the dune rises beneath the tires like a living wave and then tips away, sending you into a stomach‑flip crescendo of adrenaline.
moderate.
4 hours.
Requires a moderate level of fitness: able to climb short steep sand slopes, stand on a camel briefly, and tolerate bumpy rides.
Licensed drivers use experienced techniques to run dunes safely; always wear seat belts, follow the guide’s instructions, and avoid standing during runs.
Many operators allow children but recommend keeping young kids and infants off the bumpy runs; check age limits and available child seats when booking.
Dune bashing and bumpy rides are not recommended for pregnant travelers; the operator’s policies typically exclude pregnancy for safety reasons.
No — guides give basic instruction and boards are beginner-friendly; expect short, gentle slopes suitable for first-timers.
This region was traversed by Bedouin caravan routes and camel breeders; camel riding remains a living link to that heritage amidst rapid urban growth.
Dune ecosystems are fragile and slow to recover; choose operators that stay on designated tracks, avoid littering, and support protected reserve rules.
