About

Beer Hiking Bavaria author Rich Carbonara takes you into the Bavarian countryside, where you'll walk the Dragon's Way and visit innovative Griesbräu in Murnau.

The hike is 7 km or a little more than 4 miles. On clear days, you'll see the Alps in the distance. The route passes through both forest and open areas before finishing along a large mountain lake. Back in Murnau, we'll visit Griesbräu to sample their great traditional Bavarian food and beer. They also brew some craft beers if you'd like to try them.

Note there is 150m/500 ft ascent & descent over the course of the hike.

*Please note that small breweries take vacations even during the summer and sometimes even close for a day on a whim. While note likely, it is possible that a planned stop might be closed.

Included

Transportation to and from Munich via public transportation and guided hiking on Dragon Slayer Way. First beer is on me.

Not included

Food and beverages.

What to Expect

-In Munich, the meeting point is inside the Main Train station (HBF) in front of the Yorma convenience store on the north side of the station at 9:00. Please be there promptly as we’ll need to catch a train to our starting point.

-Tours go rain or shine and since these are hiking tours, we’ll be outside most of the day. Please bring a small pack to carry the essentials: rain jacket, extra layer, filled water bottle and a temperature appropriate hat. In cooler months, bring something warm just in case the temperature drops. Please wear comfortable weather appropriate walking shoes.

-Please bring enough cash for beer and food as a lunch stop at the brewery will take up the middle of the trip.
