Experience the thrill of windsurfing at Western Canada's first school, established in 1977. In this engaging 3-hour lesson, you'll learn the sport's history, equipment, and essential techniques, all while enjoying personalized instruction in small groups. Dive into this exciting adventure and discover a new hobby on the stunning waters of English Bay!
Seen those people with board and sail contraptions whizzing around English Bay? Not quite sailers but also not quite surfers... As the first school in Western Canada (est. 1977), you've come to the right place to learn how to windsurf! Over the course of this 3 hour lesson, learn the basics of this unique sport, including: the history of windsurfing, equipment knowledge, points of sail/ wind theory, steering, tacking, water and marine environment safety. You will spend time both on land and on the water. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the sport of windsurfing. For those who want to build confidence to rent equipment independently and make windsurfing a new hobby, we recommend continuing on to the Discover Windsurfing II course. Already know that you're committed to learning? Book both courses at the time of registration! Please note- book Discover Windsurfing I & II on seperate days - your body will thank you.
Your Discover Windsurfing I Lesson includes use of windsurfing rig (board, sail), wetsuit and life jacket for the duration of the lesson- no need to bring your own. If you are a glasses wearer, we do however recommend bringing an eyewear retainer device so that your spectacles don't end up at the bottom of the ocean!
This lesson will run with one to four participants. We like to keep groups small to maximize your windsurfing learning experience!
**Please note that children must weigh at least 80lbs/36kg to participate in windsurfing- this is so that they have enough body weight to pull the sail out of the water, which is essential for a positive experience!
