The boat slips away from the small ramp at Maunalua Bay and the city recedes into a rim of volcanic ridges. Salt and sunscreen mix with the hum of the outboard; beneath the surface, reef terraces are already alive. In two guided shallow dives you’ll glide past coral heads, passing fish that seem to ripple like living paint. Turtles visit designated cleaning stations where tiny wrasses pick at barnacles — a behavior you’ll watch from arm’s length as your instructor points and gestures.
