Description

Join us at 8:00 AM at the Coyote Aventuras office where our adventure begins with a trip into remote Sierra Norte communities nestled in the northern mountains of the city. After a scenic hour and a half drive, we’ll arrive at Cuajimoloyas, one of the ‘Pueblos Mancomunados’, where a delicious breakfast awaits with one of our friends Bélgica, who showcases the region’s famed mushroom delicacies.

In Cuajimoloyas you’ll immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscapes of rolling mountains, wispy clouds, and verdant pine forests as we explore this picturesque town. Delve into the rich tapestry of Cuajimoloyas, uncovering its history, culture, and vibrant community life, before venturing into the embrace of the magnificent forest that surrounds the village. Here one of our primary topics of conversation will be Comunalidad, the ways in which local communities construct their worldview. Comunalidad is the base for how Sierra Norte communities organize their territory, local governance, tequios and festivities.

In Cuajimoloyas we’ll begin hiking on a stunning trail adorned with vibrant flowers, towering maguey plants, golden cornfields, and pine and oak trees, a cornerstone of the local biodiversity. Remember, these hikes reach altitudes of up to 3,200 meters (10,500 feet). At Coyote, we believe that the communal processes for guarding the forest territory has contributed to an impeccable management of forest resources. In these communities every time a tree is deforested the community mobilizes to plant 2 more. On our hike, we’ll take a moment to savor a picnic amidst nature’s splendor and engage in meditative reflection.

Cap off the day with an unforgettable experience atop a breathtaking hanging bridge, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountainscapes. As the sun sets, we retire to the cozy cabins of Santa Catarina Lachatao, one of the original villages of the Pueblos Mancomunados, where ancient Zapotec heritage intertwines with the tranquility of rural life. Spend the night immersed in the timeless charm of the village, ready to embark on a new day of exploration in Lachatao and uncover more of the region’s hidden treasures.
