Amathus was one of Cyprus’s oldest coastal kingdoms; its shoreline still shelters submerged fragments of quays and foundation stones that create swim-throughs and ledges for marine life. Geologically the seabed is a gentle mix of sand and broken rock, with scattered archaeological blocks that attract wrasse, nudibranchs and the occasional barracuda. Culturally, Limassol’s coastline has been a working port for millennia, so diving here feels like slipping into an archaeological film set inhabited by octopus and rays.
This Discover Scuba experience is designed for first-timers: a short eLearning, gear fitting, basic skills practice in shallow calm water, then a supervised shallow dive off the ancient harbour—about a 15-minute drive from the dive centre. Expect good visibility, easy entry points and frequent sightings of lionfish, small reef fish and sometimes sea turtles.
Practical edge: bring a swimsuit and a towel, arrive hydrated, and complete the pre-dive paperwork beforehand. Follow your PADI instructor’s brief exactly, practice neutral buoyancy so you don’t touch ruins, and plan for 2–3 hours total including transport and briefing.
