En esta visita guiada por el barrio de Sant Andreu de Palomar, repasaremos toda la historia de uno de los barrios más importantes de Barcelona. Aunque se encontraran vestigios de asentamiento romano aislados en la zona, la referencia documental de Sant Andreu data del siglo X. En la edad media, el Conde de Barcelona desarrolló una compleja infraestructura molinera gracias a la construcción del canal Rec Comtal. El primer desarrollo urbano medieval tuvo lugar entre la actual Plaça de Comerç y la parroquia de Sant Andreu.
En el siglo XIX, con la llegada del tren se produjo una gran transformación urbanística. También arribaría la industria metalúrgica (La Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima) y la industria textil. La fusión de la empresa de la familia Fabra y la inversión de la multinacional escocesa Coats, dio lugar a La Compañía Anónima Fabra i Coats. La gran edificación de la fábrica de hilaturas se construyó alrededor de los terrenos de Can Fabra (actual Biblioteca Ignasi Iglesias) y transformó completamente la vida de Sant Andreu de Palomar, que se anexó a la ciudad de Barcelona y se transformó en un de sus barrios más importantes. Visitaremos la antigua fábrica y explicaremos su función en la actualidad.
